Robert Zastre is a Vancouver-based independent cinematographer known for his keen eye and deep passion for visual storytelling. In 2022–23, he served as a guest cinematographer for the Acting Department at Vancouver Film School, where his creative approach and technical expertise made a strong impact.
In 2023, Robert was selected for the prestigious CSC Field of View Mentee Program by the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, a recognition that speaks to his growing influence in the field. He also holds Affiliate status with the CSC.
Over the course of his career, Robert has collaborated with 24 directors from a wide range of backgrounds and artistic styles. His greatest strength lies in his adaptability—seamlessly aligning with each director’s unique vision while bringing his own refined sensibility to every frame. His work reflects a deep understanding of story, composition, lighting, and emotion, always with the narrative at the forefront.
Robert’s Operating was featured in the 2023 Juno-nominated music video Feral Canadian – Scaredy Cat.
With years of hands-on experience and creative collaboration, Robert continues to push the boundaries of the medium. He’s committed to crafting cinematic experiences that not only look beautiful but resonate on a deeper level—always in service of the story.
